Weekly Spinner Picks is all about the hot comics of the week and getting to know the tastes of the writers at Comics: The Gathering. Each week the CTG contributors spotlight which comics they are most looking forward to on Wednesday and how those picks got to the top of their to-read piles. Let us know if you agree or not with our picks and most importantly don’t forget to add your list!

Multiversity #1: Written by the one and only Grant Morrison this is sure to be the comic everyone is talking about this week. The synopsis itself involves multiple dimensions and alternate universes...so yea typical Grant Morrison comic book madness! I can’t wait to devour this first issue. It also features beautiful artwork from Ivan Reis of Aquaman fame so we know it’ll be nice to look at as well. I’ve been looking forward to this for a few months now and have faith it’ll deliver in a big way.

BPRD Hell on Earth #122: A new story arc begins with this issue written by the usual tandem of Mike Mignola and John Arcuda with art from Joe Querio. This issue has Johan going to Japan to fight giant monsters only to discover a man with no brain drawing pictures of a terrifying story. Sounds good to me!

Dark Horse Presents 2014 #1: Dark Horse Presents returns this month with a brand new price tag of $5! I have to admit before this reincarnation the price tag always deterred me from buying this anthology but at 5 bucks I will be adding this critically acclaimed series to my pull list. They brought out some big guns for this 48 page debut including Geof Darrow and Frank Miller’s Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot.

Little Nemo Return to Slumberland #1: The return of Nemo brought to us by IDW. I’ve seen some preview pages of this all-ages comic drawn by Gabriel Rodriguez and they are breath taking! I’m pretty darn excited to dive into this whimsical world full of fun and magic.

Some light reading for me this week;

Multiversity #1  Issue 1 is kicking off with 48 pages full of alternate earths and dope short stories.  This series really tempts the “what if-er” in me.

Justice Inc #1  Probably the most amazing cross over ever!  The shadow, Doc Savage and The Avenger.  The thing with cross overs, they're either really good or really bad.  I’ve got very high expectations for this one!

Fade Out #1  The story is based in the late 40’s in Hollywood.  And its settings are of the awesome Noir variety.  A haunted writer, countless reshoots and a crazed cast of odd people.  No super powers or capes here.  Been salivating for this one since it was announced in January.

I only have two this week, because school starts and my most challenging classes are on Comic Book Wednesday! Thanos give me strength!

The Fade Out #1:
BRUBAKER, BRUBAKER, BRUBAKER. He spins gold thread with his words and then any artist he teams up with has to play second fiddle. He just kicks a serious amount of ass. This series looks pretty ill, it’s about a writer in the seedy underbelly of 40s Hollywood. Should be a good time for everyone involved, especially the reader.

Hellraiser - Bestiary #1: I love Clive Barker anything, the guy has been responsible for some spooky stuff throughout his career. Most notably has been Pinhead and his cavalcade of friends strewn about in the Hellraiser series. This comic book looks like it’s a return to form for Barker’s mythos and a return to form for Pinhead himself. Puzzle box bearers beware.

What more can I say about Multiversity?  That I probably can't afford it?  Well, if you can, buy, buy, buy!  The Grant Morrison spectacular we've been waiting for since the end of the last one is here!

Another fan favorite creator returns a mere month after the conclusion of his last hit.  I speak of both Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, crime comic extraordinaires.  I'm so happy to see these guys working together all the time now.  Their new book, The Fade Out,  looks like another good'n.

A Cat Names Tim and Other Stories by cartoonist John Martz is easily the best looking cat related comic Koyama Press has released this year.  This book doesn't offically come outuntil September, but kep an eye out, finer comic retailers may already have a copy.

Only a few this week...

Multiversity #1: Grant Morrison is hit or miss with me so this issue I'll test the waters. I'm hoping to be blown away, but I wouldn't be surprised if I wasn't.

Ms. Marvel #7: This book has been just great since the beginning.

Supergirl #34: Only picking this up because it's a DOOMED tie-in. Hopefully it's not a waste of money.
Multiversity #1 - Grant Morrison.  He's earned at least a glimpse into what he's doing with DC's multiverse here.  With Ivan Reis handling art, the worst case scenario is it's pretty.  It's been a while since I've read something thinky and high concept, so I'm excited.

The Fade Out #1 - Ed Brubaker.  Sean Phillips.  Take my money now.

New Avengers #23 - Original Sin?  Meh.  AXIS?  Ok, sure.  Just give me Hickman's Time Runs Out now.  Loving what he's been doing in the current arcs of his Avengers books.

Translucid #4 - I love this mini.  It hits a lot of great story notes and presents a lot of heart.  Can't talk too much about it without getting carried away.  This is a frontrunner for my favorite mini-series of 2014.  Read it now, thank me later.

Not a huge week for me but there's one that I've been eagerly anticipating.

The Fadeout #1 - Solid creative tag team - I am very excited for this series to begin. Robertjcross already gave it a perfect score! *thumbs up*
