The re-booted Spider-Man movie franchise hits theatres July 3rd. Perfect opportunity to start an essential Spidey reading list.

My personal favorite run is the Todd McFarlane run on Amazing Spider-Man ( #298-323, #325,#328). It brings back so many fond childhood memories. I still remember finding #298 in a dollar bin at a local corner store and being so happy that my run was complete. At the time I couldn't afford the asking prices at the LCS.
That is a pretty good run, but for me, the one that changed it all and showed me that comics could be as serious as any novel out there is the Kraven's Last Hunt crossover. A two-bit Spider-Man villain finally has his day in the sun and does what no other bad guy could do. Another series that's completely over the top, but is a real hoot is the Acts of Vengeance cosmic powers thing. Spidey takes on the Hulk, a Tri-Sentinel and other heaver hitters without breaking a sweat.
