B.P.R.D. volume 7: Garden of Souls
This is another fantastic installment of B.P.R.D. brought to us by Mike Mignola and John Arcadi with amazing art by Guy Davis. Mignola and Arcadi have crafted one of the most well thought out series I’ve ever read. The character development and overall flow of the stories seem so natural you know that a lot of time and work have gone into each and every idea.
Volume 7 focuses on Abe Sapien and his origin. They tie in his back story with a current tale which is outlandish at times but still very entertaining. As always they also manage to plant several seeds of what’s to come in future issues. One of the lessons you learn early on in reading B.P.R.D. is everything is done for a reason and even minor details are always used to further the story.
Davis’ art is again flawless and is essential in bringing Mignola and Arcadi’s visions to life. In a day and age where it seems an artist only stays for one arc at a time it’s so refreshing to have this whole creative team together for the duration of the series thus far.
B.P.R.D. is one of the best series out and this is another solid chapter to the franchise. One thing I should mention is the trades are not stand alone stories. You really should start from the beginning and work your way through it in order to really fully understand and appreciate the story. I promise you won’t regret it.
