Black Widow tries to figure out what to do with Lucy, and also further investigates Apogee.

This issue was an absolute blast! The relationship between Natasha and Yelena is amazing and I love the banter between them. Kelly Thompson nails their relationship perfectly. This is definitely one of the highlights of this book. Usually we get to see Natasha playing it solo, but now she and Yelena are a team. There are even some jokes made in this issue with Yelena calling out Natasha for not consulting her on everything. I laughed out loud so many times reading this issue.

That splash page, wow! Elena Casagrande has managed to become one of my favorite artists because of this series. This issue especially has some incredible panels and pages. The splash page is another classic action scene that Casagrande has become a master of. Her way of laying out action has a very cinematic feel to it. You can really feel the energy through her pages.

The experimentation on Lucy and others by Apogee really intrigues me. I get strong feelings of mutant growth hormones. It is also similar to what happened to those exposed to the machine Magneto built in the 2000 X-Men movie. If this is mutant growth hormones then Krakoa will definitely have some issues with that. But I feel it’s something new, and that really intrigues me.

The only part of this story I am unsure of is Lucy. I have not been a fan before of characters I really love taking on an apprentice of sorts. Daredevil and Blindspot immediately come to mind. While it’s not clear if Lucy is or will become an apprentice, I still worry. Though Yelena having a “kitten” to care for is hilarious and does somewhat win me over.

Overall Black Widow continues to be a must read series. It’s the perfect mix of action, comedy and bickering between good friends. Things are ramping up with an unexpected guest spot and I can’t wait to see where this goes and what the compound is that is giving them their powers.
