Black Widow #5 Review
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Elena Casagrande, Rafael de Latorre
Colorist: Jordie Bellaire
Publisher: Marvel Comics
The wait is finally over and we get the dramatic conclusion to the first arc 'The ties that bind'.
Wow! That's pretty much all I have to say. That was one of the saddest but also most satisfying endings I have read. Sometimes when there is a delay the final product doesn't live up to the growing excitement for it. Especially being left on such a massive cliffhanger like in the previous issue. That is not the case here. Every moment in this final issue to the first arc was exceptional, and extremely satisfying. I loved how the team really turned things around. When Snapdragon said "... we're being drawn into a trap, rather than us drawing her into ours?" Got me really excited. That's how the Black Widow rolls and you're not gonna like it Snapdragon!
There is so much emotion packed into this issue. From the thrilling action to the touching moments between the characters. I have not been on such a crazy roller coaster of emotionals readding a book in a long time. I even found myself tearing up at moments because I could definitely relate. There is some serious magic in this series. Kelly Thompson has managed to really ground Black Widow and make her even more relatable than she was before. This especially shows in the interaction between Natasha and Yelena. They have such a unique bond and you really got to see that in this issue. I do hope we get a lot more of the two of them together in the future.
I have been in awe of the layout and design of this book since the beginning. Especially the jaw dropping action sequences. This issue doesn't disappoint at all and lives up to what we got in the issues prior. This book is so stunning and has a cinematic feel to it. This entire series actually has been one visual delight after another. Also the new costume looks insane! I love the hood and I can't wait to see it in action in the next arc.
Overall Black Widow is an elegant masterpiece. Every moment is even more captivating than the next. This conclusion to the first arc has been so beautifully crafted and has been well worth the wait. Treat yourself and pick this one up!
