And it begins!
That was not the battle I thought we were going to get. I was excited that the tournament was finally going to start but then the first battle went by so quickly. It even didn’t really look how I thought it would. I expected something a lot more grandiose. It looks like there is a lot more to this tournament than we initially thought.
The second battle is where I really started to look at the book sideways. This one was so odd. We definitely are not getting a straightforward tournament. It was great to see Cypher in his element though, well sort of in his element. I found that this challenge was perfect and played to his strengths, even if he didn’t think it did.
After the first two battles I’m not sure what to think of this tournament. While I applaud it for being something way out of left field, I am still sitting here feeling a bit unsatisfied. The one Krakoan mutant that we lost, or might have lost was one I wasn’t really sad about. I haven’t been a fan of the direction the character has gone, and therefore I have less attachment to them. But are they really gone? That battle left a lot of questions unanswered.
The art, seriously I would love Noto on so many more x-books. His masterfully done pages are such a delight. It really enhanced the strangeness of the battles with its bright optimistic look and feel to it.
Overall this chapter comes from the opposite direction I was expecting it would. It delivers a fresh and intriguing set of battles like no other. This tournament is going to be an interesting one that’s for sure.
