Titans #20 Review
Writer: Dan Abnett
Artist: Paul Pelletier
Colorist: Adriano Lucas
Publisher: DC Comics
In the last few issues of Titans an evil future version of Donna Troy came to the present and attacked the Titans. This led to the Titans being broken up by the Justice League and this issue explores the fall out of the team’s breakup. We see Dick is helping Wally move into his new apartment, Donna is stuck on the watchtower and Roy is taking on criminals by himself.
This issue predominantly focuses on Roy and after reading this issue it is for the best. Abnett brings back one of my favorite DC Universe couples in the form of Roy and Cheshire. This is one of the few hero/villain relationships that I feel works and is one of my favorite. I’m really hoping that he might also re-stablish their child into the current continuity.
The characterization of both of them is done really well and they play off one another as they proceed to take down various drug dealers and criminals. When they are in a restaurant together and Cheshire doesn’t pay for the food, it is hinted that she might be turning a new leaf. At the end Cheshire poisons Roy and it is revealed that she is working for The Brain. This is the first we have seen of the Brain in the current continuity so I wonder what Abnett plans to do with the character.
Overall, I really enjoyed the issue, and think that it is one of the best issues of the series that Abnett has done. I feel that Abnett works best when there is a few characters that he can focus on as opposed to a huge cast of characters. Hopefully this is a sign for the book only getting better.
