Green Lanterns #17

For anyone who has been following my reviews of Green Lanterns, you would know I have really been enjoying Sam Humphries’ Green Lanterns, however with the last issue I was really not a fan. I just found the story quite uninteresting and basic.

In this series Sam Humphries has really been focusing on the story of Jessica Cruz and her anxiety and this has really been a huge part of the series. However it does seem that Simon often gets the short end of the stick and plays second fiddle in his own series. So in this two-parter Humphries tries focusing on Simon.

By the end of the story he does actually relinquish his gun which is a huge step for his character and the story actually does pretty well to justify it. However the actual story itself just feels a bit pointless and stupid. Humphries had Scarecrow with Yellow Lantern light and he doesn’t even do anything really cool or interesting with it. All he does is just to try to influence everyone else to experience fear since he was addicted to it.

In conclusion this was really not a great issue, other than giving Baz a bit of character progression. Usually I don’t tend to talk about art as it’s usually alright or great in most books but in this the faces looked really bad, as if the faces were overeacting, especially any face Simon made.
