Jessica has not been having a great time lately. She was in prison, and when she got out Luke Cage came looking for her and demanding she tell him where his baby is. Then she was kidnapped by the villain Spot and tortured for awhile.
Turns out a woman who was taken in by S.H.I.E.L.D. who was thought to be a Hydra accountant (this all happened in Civil War II) but they were wrong. Now she wants to recruit Jessica to help go after them.
This issue we get to see many of the questions we have answered but then it still manages to ask even more. Misty Knight shows up to have a chat with Luke and Jessica and Captain Marvel reunite. I love seeing these two together because they are such an unlikely friendship.
This series has been incredible so far, well up until this issue. I didn't hate it but there was just something off about it. The flow of the dialogue just wasn't there and some of the answers to the many questions that I had just seemed to not add up. I also found the the tone of the book seemed to shift in this issue and wasn't happy with that. Jessica used to have this edge about her and the book. Now it seems that she and the book have gone a little bit soft. Hopefully things will get back to normal, but I worry that because of some of the revelations in this book, this change may be here to stay.
I love Michael Gaydos art and this issue was so good. Even with the tone of the book getting a little bit softer it was nice to see nothing change in the art. Gaydos still delivered the unique look and style that he had created for Jessica Jones way back in the Alias series.
This is still an incredible series even with some of the problems I had with this issue. If you haven't been following it I highly suggest you go pick up the first three issues and this one and get caught up.
