Green Lanterns #14
Writer: Sam Humphries
Artist: Eduardo Pansica and Ronan Cliquet
Colorist: Blond
This Phantom Lantern arc has been really good, and definitely one of the best arcs of DC rebirth for me personally. I cannot wait to see how Humphries progresses the adventures of Simon and Jessica.
Throughout this story I was really wondering how Simon and Jessica were going to defeat the Phantom Lantern as he basically had similar powers to a White Lantern. The way in which he is defeated I would say is slightly a let down if you were expecting a fight, however recently I’ve just loved story arcs where it isn’t always solved with a big fight, like Aquaman. So for me personally it was a really interesting way to defeat him.
The art is something I have complained about before, with the way in which faces were distorted, but it was a lot better this time. That moment where Jessica puts on the Phantom ring, basically sums up in one page why I’m really enjoying this series, that Humphries is really focusing on character development for Simon and Jessica.
The storyline between Volthoom and Raimi was also interesting as we have learnt a lot more about why Volthoom hates Raimi and the other guardians. I was initially disappointed to see that we didn’t really get to see how Raimi beats Volthoom, but we actually found out it was the other way around, and I’m interested to see how that will progress.
This second arc has been a lot better than the first, and now we have two new storylines to explore. One regarding the red lanterns goal, and the other regarding what Volthoom has planned for Simon and Jessica.
