We have a new Wasp and man is she bubbly! Nadia is the daughter of Hank Pym and Maria Pym. She was born after her mother was kidnapped and died. Nadia spent most of her life int he Red Room but now is in America living it up.
There seems to be a trend with a lot of the new books especially female fronted books where they are a little over the top silly. Hellcat, Ms Marvel, Squirrel Girl and now the Wasp is the newest addition to that style of comics.
I had trouble getting into this book mostly because Nadia was so over the top bubbly and just loved everything. There is a lot of hooray girl power in this book as well which for the right audience I think will do well but it was another thing that discouraged me from wanting to continue reading the book.
The overall story of this issue was mostly just fluff and didn't do anything to engage us into the story. We get to find out who Nadia is and then a little superhero work, but there was nothing in depth. The moments where we are supposed to feel something happy, touched or sad it's over shadowed by Nadia's over the top positiveness that it fell flat.
The artwork is also a bit over the top silly and suits the story that Jeremy Whitley has crafted.
This book is definitely directed at a particular demographic that I am not apart of. Young girls will love this book and that is great, and we need more books that bring in young readers. I just wish that it wasn't so pigeon holed into appeasing just that one demographic.
