Flash S03E02: "Paradox"
Another episode of The Flash is behind us and this time around it took a little more personal approach compared to last week’s episode. In my opinion, that was a good idea. Last week we got the Flashpoint that all hardcore Flash fans were waiting for but a few things it fell short. For those who were disappointed by last week’s episode, I have some good news: This week gave us the emotional depth that was lacking in the premiere.
So one thing at a time: there are consequences of Barry’s messing with time after he tried to fix everything after Flashpoint. At first we see Barry acting like nothing happens but we start to see that more things than what was revealed at the end of last week’s episode. Only people that seem unaffected are Kid Flash, oh sorry it’s just Wally now, and Caitlyn. There is big gap in the relationship between Iris and Joe that we knew about, but have no idea what is causing it and neither does Barry, which puts him into situation’s that he really doesn’t want to be in. And there is something that Barry did (or you could also say that he didn’t do) that drives him and Cisco apart. All of this is presented on screen with a good portion of humor but not so much that it detracts from what is the real focus here: the struggle of losing something important.
When Barry can’t see any way out of this mess he realizes that there is only one way out of this situation. At that point we get to see double. Well almost. The Flash meets The Flash from Earth 3. Barry’s father’s doppelganger comes on screen and we get to witness a really beautiful scene that helps Barry realize that what he is doing, what he has been trying to do, isn’t the right way to go about it.
There is also new character that we get to meet through Barry’s eyes: Julian Albert. Julian is CCPD’s new metahuman expert who apparently doesn’t get along with Barry at all. There are also characters that Barry’s secret identity meets. No spoilers here just a hint that we have seen them both at least mentioned.
Unfortunately, the one flaw that I just couldn’t ignore in this episode is how inconsistent the action scenes were. I don’t really want to get into details so that I don’t spoil it for you guys, but it was weird. Not bad but also not good. At one point The Flash is on top of the situation and in the next scene he’s at a complete disadvantage. If you are someone who doesn’t really like to go deep you will be happy because cool things happen, but they come at the cost of logical continuity.
As a whole I really enjoyed this episode and if you are still deciding whether to watch The Flash this season I can only say that you really are missing out. For all of you who were waiting for this episode for a whole week after the premiere and enjoyed it: let me know what you thought about this week’s episode what you think will be coming in the future!
