I've already written way more about Night of the Monster Men than I think it merits but there's 2 issues left and self-sacrifice is righteous so here's my review for Nightwing #6! Did I like it? I sure didn't! I could feel my interest in the crossover declining while reading the Detective Comics issue but I like Andy MacDonald's art a lot so I guess I would've just been OK with whatever that issue was but this week's Monster Men books were kind of a drag to get through.

Roge Antonio is my least favorite artist working on the crossover, his work is alright but I feel like his facial expressions are off constantly, also his rendering of rainfall is too much. I get that the book takes place in the middle of a cyclone but the patches of water bouncing and dripping off the characters just don't look good. Sotomayor and Mangual are really good though, Mangual's lettering is really effective with his effects adjusting to the shape and flow of each panel.

The real problem is how unmemorable the story has been. Batman blasts the Goo Monster from Batman #8 (cuz he's got gadgets and stuff) with a blast of electricity but once again, the Monster Men are up to some freaky shit, and they just go ahead and rebuild themselves, so get ready to have them back for the big! Final! Issue! Nightwing #6 suffers from the same problem that the rest of the event does, there's just too much pointless stuff going on. Orlando spends a couple pages trying to sell you on a specific action and then immediately moves on to something else, it's less of a story and more a collection of moments. This makes the reading experience a complete drag.

Even with consistently good art, uneven pacing and a lack of focus has made Night of Monster Men a mediocre story.
