Okay so first off let me say, at the risk of my geek card, I'm not big into Star Wars. I like the movies enough but I've only dipped my toes into the rest of the universe. I started reading the Star Wars series thanks to Marvel Unlimited, but haven't read anything else until this week. This series follows Poe Dameron and his newly assembled Black Squadron, which has been tasked by General Leia to find Lor San Tekka who is going to lead the Resistance to the location of her brother Luke Skywalker. Dameron and his team head off to Megalox Beta to further this goal. Megalox Beta is a prison that houses Grakkus the Hutt who apparently has had dealings with Tekka. Megalox is ruled by the prisoners so Poe and the rest of the squad are walking into a dangerous situation, where there might be more then meets the eye going on.
I like what I've read so far. Dameron was one of my favourite parts of the new movie even though his part was brief. The story moved a long at a pretty fast pace, and even the quieter pages were engrossing. The issue starts off with the team winding down after their previous mission. There were discussions between the characters that made them seem like fully formed people. I do wonder if some of these characters backgrounds have been fleshed out elsewhere, but as a new reader that really didnt matter. The series reminds me one of my favourites from the Golden age of Comics, Quality and DC's Blackhawk in a way, which is probably why I liked it so much. Secret missions and fighter pilots what's not to love. I enjoyed the art. It seems to me that the Star Wars book have a certain art style, same colour pallet, but this one seems a bit different and I liked it.
When I got this book I wasn't really sure if I would like it, if I would want to keep reading the series. I can say after 4 issues I am in, I will keep up with this one. It was a nice surprise Even if you aren't a Star Wars fan there is a lot to like about this issue, so I 100% suggest picking it up, you won't regret it.
