JOHN CARTER: WARLORD OF MARS #7
Written by: Ron Marz

It's been awhile since I've traveled to Mars and read the super cool stories of John Carter and his alien friends and lover. This issue picks up right where the last arc left off with Mars having defended itself (with Carter's help of course) against both Carter's ex-captian and an ancient alien race (and some inside betrayals as well). John and Dejah go on a sort of "honeymoon" mission to some ruins near the main city of Helium. While on this mission they are supposed to scout out some reports of further alien bad guys hanging out there. They instead make love and run into the aliens after the fact...then Dejah shows Carter why she's the best woman to have on the planet...
Marz really does a great job with the material in this issue. There really isn't much that goes on in the 22 pages that you read, BUT he milks the atmosphere and the recent arc for all its worth in order to give the reader a knock down drag out piece of John Carter lore. Also, I'm definitely not one for sappy love stories but Marz did a good enough job with this issue that I actually smiled everytime they were affectionate. You could feel the love between the characters and that was pretty cool.
The art is always top notch by Malsuni and this issue is no exception. While not everything is photorealistic you're at no time distracted enough by low quality art to pull out of the story, it's all very surreal and pinned down where both the lore of the narrative and the art combine as one. I love the apparel that all the characters wear as well. I'd imagine that Malsuni had to become a fashionista of sorts in order to get all the armor and clothing right in the comic. I applaud his dedication to that detail in the Carter-verse. Great stuff.
Another stellar issue. Always impressed. PICK IT UP!!!
