Godzilla: Cataclysm #3

Godzilla reigns supreme once again in this issue, doling out the hurt on many a monster who tries to destroy the already destroyed Tokyo. The issue started out very somber, almost as if the reader were attending a funeral, but as the action picked up, so did the mystery of why Godzilla was even around. We're given some background on the old man in the comic and he offers us some insight on why Godzilla attacked human beings in the first place. That was probably the best part of it, we got to see Godzilla's emotional side.

Cullen Bunn works his magic again with this property. The guy seems to have done quite a bit of homework in relation to his Godzilla trivia. The backstory is very much like a late-70s or early-80s TOHO masterpiece complete with "MIND CONTROL". It's the little things that Bunn writes into the dialogue and into the story that truly make it stand out above the other Godzilla comics that I've read. With 2 more issues after this, I'm excited to see where he ends this. What I'm saying is that I hope it's not rushed because there is a lot of room for development.

Wachter also seems to have taken a Godzilla masterclass before embarking on this great comic. His battle scenes are straight out of Monster Island and into destroyed Tokyo. Even the flying monsters like Mothra are rendered beautifully and flow like their movie counterparts. His art is beautiful and yes I'm going to praise his muted colors again because the somber tone of the comic would feel really odd without them. All in all, a great showing by this artist and some great drawings of the Big G-Man!

Another quality issue! Get your scaly hands on it!
