BATMAN ETERNAL #8

Batman isn’t making a difference.  Since there’s no cohesion between him and the Gotham PD, all his work is for naught.  The new commissioner is in Falcone’s pocket, and it’s super obvious.  At this point it’s catch and release.  Batman gift wraps the baddies and the Gotham PD let them go.  Falcone made a huge dent after destroying the Penguins base of operations and his foot hold is firmer.  

 

Then we have LT Bard, Gotham’s newest cop.  The guy’s kinda a stand in for Gordon and that’s a good thing.  We see him with an opportunity to take Batman down and he didn’t take the shot.  Looks like Batman might have a friend.

 

The colors and the facial expressions here were lacking.  Maybe having too many artists does spoil things?  I guess it is what it is, the book is released weekly after all.  

 

Another downside, the story branched out again.  Batman is enroute to retrace Falcone’s recent past.

 

At this point we have a huge story with an assload of branched side stories.  And none have been revisited.  It isn’t too bad since this book is released weekly, only two months have gone by after all.  

I can recommend this series, but it’s getting a low score because of the lack of any uniformity in the art.  It just has never been as obvious as it was here in issue 8.  And it's a damn shame, the story and dialogue are so solid!  Hopefully #9's art brings things back to par.
