This issue is a perfect example why Black Widow is an Eisner award winning series.
I loved this issue so much. The relationship between Natasha and Yelena is amazing and you really get to see the bond between them. I also love how Kelly Thompson delivers the banter between them. Fans of the movie will love that this series has all that “sisterly” banter and so much more.
We are reaching the end of this story arc and wow things are starting to get intense. It was also really nice to see that the first story arc continues to have an impact on Natasha. That she is using the events of that to push her through.
Lucy though I continue to be on the fence with. I’m not a big fan of protégé’s and Lucy isn’t offering enough to the story to warrant her to continue past this story arc. We will see in the next issue if they cure her or if she remains powered.
One thing that I have truly loved about this series is the art, especially the splash pages. We get one in this issue that is jaw dropping. How Elena Casagrande captures movement is next level. She has skyrocketed to be one of my favorite artists because of her ability to continue to deliver thrilling and dynamic art that almost literally leaps off the page. Rafael De Latorre also manages to deliver some dynamic pages and the pair really bring the book to greater heights.
Overall this Eisner award winning series delivers another phenomenal issue that makes this the definitive Black Widow series. All Black Widow series going forward will be looking to this run as its blueprint.
