Infinite Frontier #1 Review

What an issue! Loads to unpack and ponder and just, wow I’m really excited to see where this series will go.
This series will follow the Justice Incarnate and other characters from across the DC multiverse trying to mend their new worlds after the reset from Dark Nights: Death Metal. Williamson walks that fine line giving readers just enough to entice their curiosity. The opening pages are strong and are an homage to a scene that should be familiar to most DC fans, prepping readers for new twists on familiar moments. Williamson writes an incredible President Superman and Thomas Wayne; I love the panels capturing the traditional Supes/Bat friction and I appreciate Supes holding the informed upper hand in this standoff. The dialogue is well-written, and each character feels distinct, Williamson is an expert at balancing this assemblage of characters.
Oh man! The art in here is just beyond wonderful, there’s a particular panel featuring Alan Scott and Obsidian with a brilliant flash of green and I just stared at it for the longest time. The vibrancy of the green and the way the text effects blend in is beautiful. Then the buildup to Obsidian realizing his connection is severed is so tense and flows nicely. There’s so much to admire in this book, the design of light and shadow are intricate and there’s so much attention to detail.
So much has been in the works for the DC multiverse since Rebirth and this series feels like a huge step forward in unravelling the threads that have been laid out. I’m so stoked to read more and can’t wait to have another issue in three weeks.
