The Children of the Vault have returned and it is causing Cyclops to question some of the decisions he has made.

It’s great to have Jonathan Hickman and R.B. Silva back together. This issue was so well crafted and very reminiscent of House of X/Powers of X. This series was a one and done but now we are seeing that something bigger is upon the mutants and it can’t be contained in only one issue. The Children of the Vault have shown up a few times before, but we still don’t know a lot about them. It makes sense that they would pose as an existential threat to the mutants, resulting in the previously mentioned questioning of Cyclops’s decisions.

I really enjoyed this issue immensely. Not only does it feel a lot like HOX/POX, it is raising the bar yet again. We could see a big change to a few much loved mutants, or we could see all of mutantdom changed from the results of this story. One of the great things was to see X-23 back in her Wolverine outfit, and a lot more confident that she has been in the ‘Fallen Angels’ series. Also the use of mutants we haven’t seen in a very long time is very exciting.

Having R.B. Silva back on the art, even if it’s just for a guest spot is amazing. When I think of modern day X-Men its Silva and Pepe Larraz art I see. This issue is absolutely stunning, especially the moments in the Vault. Silva manages to bring such excitement to even the most subtle panel. I really wish we could have Silva on this book permanently.

Overall this issue ushers in a huge threat to the mutants that is going to most likely have lasting implications. If you haven’t been reading ‘X-Men’ then you need to pick this book up.
