In the third issue of the weekly Allegiance miniseries, Rey and company have been attacked by Quarren on Mon Calamari and are forced to defend themselves in front of the king. Meanwhile, Finn and Poe must evade bounty hunters on the Moon of Avedot that have complicated their mission to find weapons for the Resistance.

I thought this miniseries had a very strong start after the first issue and I am still enjoying it, but not as much as I was at first. This issue and the one before it don't feel like they've accomplished as much, especially with this series being so short and fast paced. There are only twenty pages left to wrap up this entire story. I know there is precedent for the Journey To miniseries only lasting four issues (Shattered Empire and Captain Phasma in the previous two lines) but four issues felt right for both of those stories while this one feels like it could have used a lot more breathing room. I would have liked to explore Mon Cala more and see more of its wounds leftover from the previous two wars, and get more on the characters that were either present or are the children of people who were. Aftab Ackbar is a big introduction of this series and he'll appear in the film but I don't feel like he's gotten quite enough development. On top of that, it's our third comic story with Mon Cala in as many time periods. It would have been nice to see any direct connections to those stories. There's been one or two small implied things but a longer series would have allowed more time to dive into them rather than leave so much to the imagination.

It's still a solid story, I just wish there was a bit more to it. We've waited a long time to finally get comics set in this time period with this cast, getting to see them explore the galaxy and grow the Resistance. One thing that I am enjoying is Rey's charcaterization in the aftermath of The Last Jedi and her fight with the droid. I also enjoy getting to see Finn and Poe together but their plot hasn't hooked me as much. It's cool to see Kendoh and crew from the Galaxy's Edge miniseries but I think I would have liked it more if Finn and Poe were on Mon Cala with everyone else and maybe had their own side mission there, closer to the rest of the plot.

Luke Ross's art is still mostly great, he's one of the most consistent Marvel Star Wars artists. It's overall a pretty good miniseries. I hope that the fourth and final issue can stick the landing and bring me back to enjoying it as much as I was after the first issue.
