Star Wars Adventures #22 Review

This month's installment in the Adventures series is the second of three stories set around the original trilogy, after the last three stories set around the prequel trilogy. The main story, written by Pierrick Colinet and Elsa Charretier, is about Leia and the droids investigating reports of Imperial activity on Nothoiin and finding something that they weren't expecting. The backup is a story about a rebel and a tauntaun on Hoth from Jon Waterhouse. 
 

The main story is definitely fun. It's another story in the era before Empire Strikes Back, which is a time period that we've had a lot of. The solicitations reported that the story would be immediatly after Empire Strikes Back, which is an era we've had significantly less in, so I was looking forward to seeing that but the story was still enjoyable. Even though it's a time period we've seen plnety of times the story didn't feel like it was one that I had read before, which is a problem I've had with some stories both in the Adventures series and outside of it. I always like Elsa's art so that helped my enjoyment of it too.

The backup was pretty good. On top of being a cute, fun little story, it was cool to see a bit of tauntauns in their natural habitat and get a little bit more information about the Rebels' time on Hoth. One thing the earlier issues of Adventures did more of that I wouldn't mind seeing again is stories about other expanded universe characters (Evaan, Mattis, Shriv).

This was a solid, regular issue of Adventures. Definitely what I expect and enjoy from the series on average. The next issue really will be set after Empire Strikes Back, about Lando and Chewie on the Falcon, so I'm definitely really looking forward to that. Beyond that, we know of a couple stories based around the sequel trilogy coming up that sound really interesting. Can't wait to see what comes next!
