Young Justice #2

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist: Patrick Gleason and Emanuela Lupacchino
Colorist: Alejandro Sanchez
Publisher: DC Comics

Young Justice is probably the most anticipated of Wonder Comics. Brian Michael Bendis was a great choice for this book since he has a history of writing younger characters and team books really well. I personally liked last issue, however I did have a few problems with it such as the continuity errors and where the story takes place.

The best image I can you use to describe this book, is the image in this issue where Teen Lantern is on top of Jinny Hex’s car and Wonder Girl stands around. The issue feels really stagnant. There is no real advance in the plot, as the issue for the most part gives us an uninteresting back story for Wonder Girl.

The Wonder Girl issue focuses on Zeus, her grandfather, giving her an amulet which was meant to complete her set, along with her bracelets and lasso. Bendis uses Wonder Girl to voice what the audience was thinking. Zeus seems to appear out of nowhere, try and push this amulet onto Wonder Girl, she declines multiple times and then he leaves. All we really take from this is that Wonder Girl wants to work hard and improve herself, by herself.

One of the best aspects of this issue has to be Gleason’s art as his use of shading when the Gemworld citizens meet and bright beautiful skies, which reminded me of his fantastic work on Superman.

In summary I did like elements of the issue, but it doesn’t really explain anything that was set up in the first issue and doesn’t provide the reader with any new information.
