Doctor Aphra #28 Review

Continuing from the last installment in the Worst Among Equals arc, Aphra and Triple Zero are rushing to get to a specialist that can remove the ticking bombs inside of them when they’re ambushed by the reanimated duo of Tam Posla and Beetee. On top of that, Dr Evazan has been spooked by Triple Zero’s threats and has sent monster hunters Winloss and Nokk to ensure that Triple Zero doesn’t make it off Milvayne alive.
 

The arc continues to be one of my favorites, if not my actual favorite, yet from Si Spurrier. I wasn’t enjoying the previous arc, The Catastrophe Con, too much but the ending of that arc elevated the series for me and my opinion of it hasn’t gone down since.
 

The character work is still probably my favorite part of the series. Aphra and Triple Zero get great development as always. The cutaways to Evazan and Ponda are always a ton of fun. Zombie Tam Posla is even better than regular Tam Posla was in some ways, though I do still miss him a bit. Winloss and Nokk didn’t get as much to do as I expected but I imagine we’ll see more of them throughout the rest of the arc.
 

The art is great as always. I’m still really glad to have Laiso back after he was absent from the previous arc, his style fits the series perfectly.
 

There isn’t too much else to say about the issue. There weren’t any giant twists or developments, just a solid installment in a solid arc. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens in the rest of this arc, we’ve still got another three whole issues to go. What sets Aphra apart from the other ongoings for me is it doesn’t seem to have a specific endgame in mind like the rest, which is just fine for me. I think it suits the series, and I’m glad for it to continue as long as it can. Can’t wait to see where it goes!
