Uncle Scrooge #41 Review

Writer: Carlo Panaro

Colorist: Disney Italia

Translator: Thad Komorowski
Publisher: IDW

As long as IDW has been publishing these Disney comics from other countries, we have gotten so many fun comic books full of simple and silly stories with all of our favorite characters. Of course, some have been better than others, but for the most part, they’re all enjoyable.

Uncle Scrooge #41 contains a story originally printed in Italy in 2007 about Magica’s attempt to steal Scrooge’s first dime using time travel. As you’d expect, complications happen and Scrooge’s fortune is as safe as usual. I never mind these stories being pleasant predictable ones because they contain a lot of humor within the story. This simple format is also very comforting and makes for great light-hearted reading.

This issue of Uncle Scrooge does seem to be lacking much of that humor that we’ve come to expect from this series. There aren’t enough funny side characters or comical one-liners to make this issue stick out from the rest of IDW’s Disney comics. The story in this issue is one that would have been better in a larger collection of Disney comics, but an entire issue by itself definitely leaves the reader unfulfilled.

The issue does, as usual, impress with it’s excellent and fun, classic styled artwork. No issue of Disney comics from IDW has yet to fail in this department as they have all excellently perfected the art style that makes these classic characters so loveable even when they’re illustrated in the last couple of decades.

For young readers who keep up with Disney comics, it’ll surely be worth it as there aren’t any other IDW Disney releases this week. And overall, the issue isn’t bad, it is just a little too plain.
