Justice League Odyssey #1 Review
Writer: Joshua Williamson
Artist: Stjepan Sejic
Letterer: Deron Bennett
It's finally here! After a two month delay, the much-anticipated third title in the new line of Justice League books has finally come out. And it sucked! Yay me.
This was such a disappointment. A wise man once said that the worse crime a comic can commit is to be boring, and this was sure boring. I haven't been this bored reading a comic in a good long while, it's impressive on a fundamental level.
Stjepan Sejic couldn't even save the book. I was disappointed when I found out he wasn't drawing this book past the upcoming second issue. At least he gets to move on to other projects instead of sticking to this… nonsense. And the art is indeed gorgeous. Sejic's art is some of the most unique in the industry, and his involvement was a serious win. His character models are fantastic and I just love how expressive his characters are.
Following the destruction of Colu in Justice League: No Justice, the many planets that were shrunk down by Brainiac were released into what the Guardians of the Universe refer to as the Ghost Sector. Jessica Cruz has been designated as the sentry of this sector, so she's essentially in charge of it. This is when she encounters the new team of Cyborg, Starfire, and Azrael.
I'm bored with the story and it's only just begun. The stakes feel so artificial, the premise of the story feels so contrived, and the art is the only factor driving the plot.
I'd highly recommend avoiding this, but you probably won't listen to me, right? Why would you? Avoid this like the plague.
