It happens. It has to in every series, every arc. There comes an issue where some of the pieces of the old issues come up, and we glimpses of where the story is going, but it doesn’t seem like any of the story is currently happening.
The way the cliffhanger at the end of the last issue was handled, I kind of forgot it was a cliffhanger at all. And it’s the same thing with the returning elements. We haven’t seen where they are going yet, but at this point, I’m tired of the hints. I just want to know what happens. I need more action.
This issue did delve deeper into the other world, the ghost world, and it was creepy. It was a fun trip, but too short. Again, and I’ve seen other readers and critics say this, what is going on?
Some of the key, and most interesting, facets of the first issue have been completely ignored since. Remember how Fergie and his mother were on this Dr. Phil/Maury Povich type show with a made up story for the attention, and it was implied that this was just a thing they do? Where’s that been since the beginning? And in the first issue when Fergie said he was dead, or at least about to be? That hasn’t even been mentioned since. If these things were brought up again or hinted at, it would give readers motivation to keep reading, but if we all forget about it, reading it can become a chore.
This wasn’t a bad issue in anyway. The artwork is still top notch, and I am noticing more intricate things in it, like the splatters around Culpepper’s head. But, this issue really does feel lacking in story, action, and plot development.
