Batman #41 Review
Writer: Tom King
Artist: Mikel Janin
Colourist: June Chung
Letterer: Clayton Cowles
Tom King decides to halt his Batman/Catwoman wedding story to give us a Poison Ivy story, one which quite frankly has me concerned.
What concerns me is that nothing at all is explained in this issue. Ivy manages to control every single living human on the planet, including Superman and Wonder Woman. How exactly is this possible? This story is scheduled for go for a total of three issues, so with two issues left following this one, I'm pretty afraid that Tom King will do his thing and simply not explain anything. I'm looking forward to seeing exactly how King executes this story, but he has a tendency to not make an issue count in the overall story, so we'll see.
In addition to my reservations, nothing much really happens in this issue. It isn't very exciting or tense, and can be slightly confusing, especially towards the end.
I have overall mixed feelings on Mikel Janin. I used to be a big fan of his art but his association with THE WAR OF JOKES AND RIDDLES genuinely and honestly soured my attitude towards his art. I just hated that story so much and I especially found his style irritating and too digital-looking. Here his art is more pleasant, probably because it's been a while since he has worked on this book. June Chung's colouring is fantastic, adding life to Janin's linework.
I'm confused by this story in terms of its placement, mostly because I was under the impression that King is building towards the eventual wedding in #50. This doesn't have anything to do with that except for the appearance of Catwoman. The art is fine and the colouring is even better.
