So, far Tom Taylor has been setting up all the sides for this new Injustice year and now he is really getting to the theme and crux. In this issue, it’s confirmed that the villains are the League of Assassins. We did see Talia and Damian’s sister break Damian out, but it wasn’t yet confirmed. However, Tom Taylor puts a spin on it and you don’t have a traditional League of Assassins.

Tom Taylor really knows how to write Harley Quinn really well. He gets the character of Harley and I think it was really highlighted in this issue. In this issue, there is a scene where Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are having a conversation and Ivy highlights how her loyalty is often blind and misplaced. In the context of this issue it brings up the question of whether she is being guided by blind royalty by joining Ra’s. Harley is written as both comic relief but as a tragic character as well.

Something is done in this issue that hasn’t been addressed since the start of Injustice. When Injustice kicked off everything was so fast-paced and there were so many elements to juggle, that no one seemed to hold Harley Quinn accountable for her role in Metropolis. She did have a huge part to play, and it is revealed here that she was expecting to fail and that she wanted Superman to win. It makes sense since this isn’t uncommon in superhero comics. This is partially why I say Tom Taylor gets the character as the character isn’t so much a villain and more does it out of love for the Joker.

Ra’s Al Ghul has always had a position of wanting to save the world however the way he wants to go about it is wrong as he wants to kill human beings to achieve this better world. Taylor includes this theme to add more characters. The League itself is probably enough but Taylor adds all the environmental superheroes as for them it helps the planet, so characters like Poison Ivy, Animal Man, Vixen along with the Suicide Squad.

At this point it seems redundant to say how great this series is each week as it constantly seems to churn out good issues. It is really great that Tom Taylor was able to return, after he left for 2 years although those 2 years were good as well. However, it does seem great to return to familiarity.
