Weekly Spinner Picks is all about the hot comics of the week and getting to know the tastes of the writers at Comics: The Gathering. Each week the CTG contributors spotlight which comics they are most looking forward to on Wednesday and how those picks got to the top of their to-read piles. Let us know if you agree or not with our picks and most importantly don’t forget to add your list!

Small week for me!

Afterlife with Archie #7: Finally my favorite ongoing title is back!! I can’t remember when issue 6 came out. At least we had Sabrina #1 to hold us over a bit. This is a Thanksgiving issue with the media promo tag, “Who will feast and who will be feasted upon”!! I can’t wait. I’ll have to pick up 2 copies since I got my mother hooked on this series as well.

Valiant #1: I’m super excited for this self-contained miniseries. I had been following and reading the Valiant universe since it’s relaunch but have really fallen behind recently. I’m not exactly sure why since I enjoyed everything I read that they had put out. Anyway I’m hoping this series motivates me to jump right back in! It’s got one heck of an amazing creative team with Matt Kindt and Jeff Lemire handling the writing duties and Paolo Rivera on pencils. I haven’t read much about it so I’m going in cold except I did check out the beautiful preview pages. It looks great! I’m sure the story will be just as good!

Short one for me as well: Bitch Planet #1 I'm really looking forward to this book. It kinda reads like "orange is the new black" with some sic fi elements mixed in.

Not a very big week for me (which sometimes is a blessing!) - Afterlife With Archie #7: After what feels like ages, we're finally getting a new issue! I'm hoping that gap in issues was to create a buffer so we'll get back on track with regular monthly issues. This book is too good to have an irregular schedule! - Transformers Vs. G.I. Joe #5: I feel like #4 just came out so this could be an error on my pull list site, but I hope not! Consistently one of the most fun and bizarre books I'm reading. The design and art cover up a barely non-existent story. Just like how you would play with your toys in the sandbox, this isn't supposed to be a mind-blowing story. It's just fun.

East of West: The World East of West is finally back! I’ve missed this series so much since September and I can’t wait to read this one. Even though, it’s a standalone adventure and not part of the main story, watching Hickman explore his meticulously crafted world will certainly be a joy. This series has never disappointed me and I can’t wait for it to hit year 2. Sex Criminals #8 This is by far my favorite Matt Fraction comics. It’s got his signature wit, a great sense of emotion and fantastic characters. I’m so invested in this story despite the consecutive delays. Can’t wait for this one! Southern Bastards #6 My favorite book of the year returns this week. This book is perfection in my eyes. Need I say anything else? Thor #3 I loved Thor #2! The new Thor is a really fun character and her personality was unexpected. I was expected a more badass type of character but what Jason Aaron gave us was an innocent and fun girl. Thor is in very capable hands.

Eternal 1: This new BOOM! Mini-series is about people who never die because they keep cloning themselves to live forever. I'm about that in a lot of ways. I'm also about short stories in bigger worlds like this, love this little glimpses into a bigger thing. I hope it delivers.

Copperhead 4: I honestly don't really care for westerns as a genre but Copperhead is making me think I should. This is my favorite book out right now and I have immensly high hopes for where it's going.

Bitch Planet 1: This will be the first time I'm starting a Kelly Sue DeConnick book the same time as everyone else instead of catching up. I love her work and I think Image is going to give her a lot more freedom than Marvel does. Color me excited.
