Here we go again! If you guys are repeat readers of my reviews, you know I have just been in awe since James Tynion IV took over writing duties on Batman from Tom King. Tynion came out of the gates strong and with his third entry, hasn’t slowed down yet! Tynion and company have definitely been working hard to put Batman back on top which is where this series should be since its his title series. For all too long Batman has been in the shadows of his own universe with other Bat-titles having more success but as of late it has really turned a corner and I believe the series is up there neck and neck now with Curse of the White Knight and The Batman’s Grave, which just makes me giddy inside. I knew from the day DC announced Tynion as the new writer that this series was going to get the ramp up it needed and so far, it has well exceeded my expectations! The art in these issues has also been amazing bringing the story to life and we’ve gotten some of the best art we’ve seen in this series in awhile and its only going to get better when we hit issue #90 with Jorge Jimenez coming onboard after his run on Justice League with legendary writer Scott Snyder. Batman is on the up and up, and I can’t wait to see what other new toys we will have introduced and the events that will unfold after we finally get a conclusion to the epilogues we’ve been getting featuring the Joker.

Let me start this review off by saying Batman #88 is hands down the BEST issue of Batman I have read in at least two years! Tynion has really out done himself with this one! The issue begins after the events of the last one with Batman having found Cheshire and trying to bring her in when he discovers that the other assassins who were locked up in the GCPD are gone. This issue accounts the aftermath of the Penguin taking the assassins and the events that unfold will leave you with your jaw on the floor. There is so much revealed in this issue as you go page by page and it all just keeps us hooked to the words on the pages wanting to discover more and more. There is so much in these few pages that really get you excited and saying oh damn! Tynion of course does unveil a new Bat-Gadget created by Lucius Fox, but this one is hands down the coolest one yet. I wont spoil it for you guys, but when you read it, you are going to wish it was a real thing that we could get our hands on! I am just so impressed with Tynions work on this issue and beings its only his third one really makes you wonder how he could possibly top it off but he has left plenty of room for a grand reveal, while giving us just enough bit by bit to keep us entertained the entire issue. More in detail on this issue without giving anything away, but I promise when you read the issue yourself, you’re going to know exactly what I am talking about. Just such an epic issue from Tynion!

I can’t imagine reading this issue without the art of March to bring such an amazing story to life. I love his darker, more gruesome approach to his art style and it really fits well into the theme of this issue. March’s character designs are all so brilliantly detailed and it makes you feel as though you’re almost reading a horror novel, which really fits well into the story. I love the more basic bat suit hehas drawn while adding so much detail at the same time to counter the basic design of the suit. I also really love the bigger, bulkier design of batman in this issue. That has always been the way I prefer to see Batman as I feel it is more realistic. The designs for the supporting cast are all excellent as well, and he wastes no space in any panel, being sure to give us as much detail as possible. The colors and inks in this issue also help sell that darker theme and all in all, the complete art is breathtaking and eerie which I absolutely love! A fantastic job by the art team as a whole to bring this amazing story to life.

I really can’t speak any higher of this issue. If I could rate it an eleven out of ten, I would in a heartbeat. I am so thrilled with the decisions DC has made of putting this new creative team together and it makes me so happy to get this much excitement from Batman because it has been lacking for some time now. Batman #88 is available now, so please go pick it up ASAP and make it the first issue you read as soon as you get home! Let me know what you guys think of the issue and Tynion and anything else you want to add into my review by going to the comments section below! Until next time,
