Clark is suffering from a lot of inner turmoil, now more than ever since the leakage of his relationship with Diana. Diana who is also struggling to try and be the more grounded of the two, keeping Clark tethered before his worries let him get carried away. Unfortunately his now public relationship with Wonder Woman is not his only worry; Zod, his mysterious guest who also happens to be a Kryptonian is definitely more than what meets the eye.

What’s great about this issue is that while it still focuses on the relationship between Wonder Woman and Superman, it’s not strictly just about them always being together either. Naturally there are consequences, Clark’s worry that his past will come to haunt Diana as well is understandable, but there is a large focus on Superman himself as he goes up against Zod.

It’s not a total mindless battle though, Clark isn’t the only one being driven by relationships, Zod as well is fighting to have Faora by his side. It’ll be interesting to see the juxtaposition between what Superman and Wonder Woman have compared to what Zod and Faora will bring.

The art is on point as usual with stunning work from Daniel, Batt, and Morey, bringing the life that these characters deserve on paper. The action is easy to follow and doesn’t get overwhelming. There are some really gorgeous lines and colours here.

Sure it’s a superhero(x2!) title, but it’s less about superhero-ing and more about how to handle relationships, especially when they can take a turn for the worse when the both of you carry quite a bit of baggage coming into it. Which sounds like a quaintly human problem, which goes to show that despite having powers, our problems can be their problems too. Only thing is, we don’t live in fear of fighting Doomsday or gods.

There’s also a little bonus story tacked on at the end, Clark Kent trying to use his connection in journalism to try and get down to the bottom of the mystery of who leaked his relationship, as well as the rest of the world reacting to the leak. Not only do we see Clark and Diana trying to handle things (separately), but also glimpses of Lex, and good friend Batman. It’s quite a generous add on, that follows the regular story of Superman Wonder Woman, but it’s light hearted enough that the choice to make it separate doesn’t seem too odd. And while it seems like things are just about to get rough for the power couple, one little extra story end positively giving a reader hope in their strength, not only as heroes, but as two people who care immensely about each other.
