Catalyst Comix #3
Now that the introductions are over, issue #3 finds Catalyst Comix getting into the swing of things. With Frank fighting slavery, Amazing Grace fighting her own lust, and the Agents of Change fighting bad-guys, everyone’s favourite psychedelic super-hero anthology reigns in the scope, yet never loses what makes the series so ambitious.
Once again, it’s Frank Wells who steals the show as a solider with a newfound mission; to end child slavery. Writer Joe Casey, takes a superhero troupe and turns it on its head. A man of steel, saves only his metropolis, while war-crimes are committed all across the globe? How is this fair? For Frank Wells, the politics are merely inconsequential, and filled with new purpose, we see Frank becoming the hero he was born to be.
Meanwhile Amazing Grace comes face to face with the handsome man from another dimension. She’s fought her way through all forms of life, but what happens when she meets a creature who emits a pheromone that makes all the ladies swoon? If her thoughts are any indication, this could end violently for that creature and hey, here’s hoping.
The Agents of Change certainly picked up the pace this week reader’s got to meet and witness the beating down of some villians. Oh, and Elvis Warmaker has just acquired a pretty nifty and heroic looking watch. +3 to light armour.
The art once again is looking great. The panel work from all three artists are truly inspired particularly the scene where Frank delves into his own psyche, an LSD laced marvel of art.
Catalyst Comix #3 continues the series hot streak. It’s a psychedelic thrill-ride made greater by its originality and ability to throw old conventions out the window.
