Superman #14
Writer: Peter J. Tomasi, Patrick Gleason
Artist: Ivan Reis, Joe Parado
Colorist: Marcelo Maiolo
Publisher: DC Comics
We are headed right into a new story arc in Superman and after the somewhat lack luster previous arc, one can only hope that this one will bring us back to what the series started off so strong with.
This issue we find Superman from another reality who finds his way to this Earth. There seems to be creatures that are hunting down Supermen. Who are these creatures and can our new Superman of this earth help another wayward Superman from being consumed by these creatures?
I don't know why but one of the things that I really enjoyed about this new Superman series was him as a dad. Seeing him and Jon interact and Clark teaching him to become a hero was awesome. It's what truly made this series stand out from everything else. Action Comics I expected to be more of a Superman book and this more of a father and son book. But we now have another arc that is focusing just on Superman, and that would be fine if it was a great story but again it is not.
Last issue we had Frankenstein bounty hunters and now these weird aliens that are collecting Supermen from different universes. To the point where it is very much like Marvel's Spider-verse or at least thats the feeling I got from reading it. This could end up being a really good story but right now that last arc left me skeptical, and this one isn't giving me high hopes. Nothing really pulled me into the story at all here. It all seemed to give me that "been there, done that" kind of feeling.
The artwork in this arc is definitely better and back to what I would expect from a Superman book. The colors and detail are awesome and really enjoyed how the action sequences were laid out. But I did find myself wishing Patrick Gleason would draw more of the issues than just co-write the story.
This isn't a terrible book by any means but it again is not the best. If you have some extra money and want to pick up more Superman then sure it's an alright start to a new arc that will hopefully get better.
