I don’t know about you but I have been an huge fanboy for the Assassin’s Creed series for many years! I have almost every game and I continuously go back and play them. I have heard that there have been and still are AC comics but I have never read any of them until now. Many times when you have a game, movie or television show that comes out any spin off material is a tossup on its quality. So when I saw that a comic was coming out for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag I was intrigued. Even more so when I found out it was a manga which besides some Sailor Moon in the past I have never read before.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is one of the better games to come out in the format. Now we have a manga that dives deep into that world of assassin’s, adventure and also pirates staring one of our favouites Edward Kenway. This book was so much fun and jam packed full of action and adventure. This book tells the tale of how Edward went from a notorious pirate to a swashbuckling assassin. For those that haven’t played any of the games, not to worry this being an origin story it introduces us to all the characters really well and leaves us hanging with excitement for the next issue.

I really enjoyed that Takashi Yano took the basis of the story from the game and expanded on it. Everything you loved is here and even more. Edward is the exact same as he is in the game and I can’t wait to see how his journey to becoming an assassin will be explored in this series.

This book like many manga is in black and white, but really you aren’t missing anything without color. Kenji Oiwa’s art is incredible and how the action sequences are paced out is just perfect.

I loved this book and really the only thing negative I could say about it would be that it was a very quick read. I loved the action sequences and how immersive they are, but they do take up a good portion of this issue. But like I said that’s a very minor part to and otherwise absolutely amazing book. I highly suggest anyone who loves a good adventure story pick this one up, you won’t be disappointed
