The conclusion to the Last Days of Magic are upon us, and what a crazy ride it has been. I don’t know about you but I’m glad it is over. This has been such an incredible story, but I still am happing to have it done.
Many times the final chapter to a story arc can feel a little underwhelming. That there was all this build up and the payoff at the end just didn’t seem to fulfill expectations. That’s not true with Jason Aaron’s Last Days of Magic arc. He managed to keep up the action, drama and you truly felt that the final battle was worth all the struggle that Doctor Strange and his team had to go through.
Things were really starting to get bleak, and many of the skeletons in Doctor Strange closet started to come out. He’s not the symbol of purity and strength that he has been built up to be all these years. But I think that’s how Jason Aaron was able to make Stephen Strange more relatable. This issue you really saw just how human Strange is, some of the very bad choices he has made over the years and how they have now come back to bite him.
Where do things go from here? We don’t know and even Doctor Strange isn’t sure. But one thing I do know this this battle with the Empirikul has given Strange a must needed reality check.
The other thing I really enjoyed about this issue was Chris Bachalo’s art. It was really on point, and all that detail helped to enhance the action and really pull you into the thick of it. Bachalo’s art style just seems to be perfect for Doctor Strange. There so many weird things and his art just truly brings the bizarre to life. I love the pairing of Bachalo and Aaron as well. They just seem to really mesh and are able to deliver exception stories.
This is one of the best series from Marvel and a fantastic conclusion to such an amazing story arc. I’m excited to see more Doctor Strange and how these events have changed him for the better or worse.
