Cable #5 Review
Writer: Gerry Duggan

Cyclops, Jean and Cable investigate the Point space station. Something is afoot.
This chapter revolves mostly around a setup to the new series ‘S.W.O.R.D.’ that will debut in December. It has for now little to no bearing on the main story of the event. I also got huge filler vibes from it. Since the event will be going on right up until close to the new series launching, it does make sense to set up that series, more than just the appearance of the Point in the early issues of the event.
While this chapter was a fun read, I found myself disinterested because it wasn’t about the tournament. It was to be about Cable preparing for the tournament, but we got a separate story with a little bit of Cable finally being ready.
Also the assailants that the trio are investigating are new, but they have very strong Phalanx feels to them. This kind of disappointed me somewhat as well. It’s the same old same, just in a new package. I am trying to be hopeful that the new series will present to us why they are unique and different, but then I’m also fearful that there will not be much to differentiate them from the Phalanx. The other thing they reminded me of is the Borg from ‘Star Trek’ with how they acted. Maybe they will be a combination of the two.
Overall if there is a chapter of the event to skip this would be the one. It is still a fun read but other than the few panels of Cable finally heading to the circle with his sword, there isn’t anything that seems to have anything impact on the tournament in this chapter.
