Marauders #9 Review
Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Matteo Lolli
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Yellowjacket is deep undercover inside Pyro, but things are soon not going to go well for this intruder.
This issue was pretty awesome. Emma Frost has always been one of my favourite characters, and it was great to see her really at her best. There are several moments where I was questioning what was going on, but then you find out Emma is the reason and then it all makes sense. I wouldn’t want to get on her bad side, and in this issue you really see what could happen if you do.
This issue did have me start to question some of the mutant’s choices, especially in the laws the Quiet Council has set out. This “kill no human” law might be a problem. Many of the intruders and overall problems the mutants have been dealing with can easily regroup and come back to hurt them more. Would a lethal approach over non-lethal be a better plan to permanently deal with issues like Yellowjacket?
While I really enjoyed the story for the most part in this issue, the art is where it sort of falls apart. There are some very odd anatomy choices made, and it just makes me think this issue was rushed. The series overall has looked amazing but the intense release schedule may be having a negative effect on the book.
Overall this was a great fun issue that really showcased some fan favourite mutants. This series continues to be one of the best x-books out right now. Even with some subpar art, the book is still pretty solid.
