Marauders #4 Review
Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Lucas Werneck
Publisher: Marvel Comics
The Marauders continue to set out and rescue mutants that cannot get to a Krakoan gateway. This issue we see Captain Kate and Bishop on a mission in Taipei.
So this book continues to be fun, light hearted, and pretty campy. I really enjoyed the interaction between Captain Kate and Bishop. I never thought I would enjoy these two as much as I am. It really works well for the story. Pyro continues to be a wild card and I’m waiting for the day he goes too far. While this is a team book, it’s been a while since we have really seen the full team on a mission together. We are getting more bits of part of the team doing one thing, while the other members are off elsewhere. This makes the book feel a little bit disjointed, especially since we are only four issues in. Also I’ve seen many fans online upset about the lack of Storm in the books. While when she is in a scene she’s great, she’s just not in the book as much as I would have liked. She’s reduced to short cameos, than having an integral part in ‘Dawn of X’ which is unfortunate.
This book is also starting to feel a lot like Wolverine and the X-Men. It has a very similar comedic tone, and now adversaries. While some were huge fans of that series I was not. The reveal of villains at the end of this issue had me groaning and not looking forward to the next issue.
This book does feel more like a Captain Kate solo series with cameos than an actual team book. But that’s where this book really shines. She is such an engaging character that I don’t really care. She has all the elements to bring an exciting story and so much more.
Overall this book stays consistent and delivers an enjoyable read. My nitpicking aside it is still one of the better series out right now. If you haven’t checked it out, you really should.
