Powers of X #6 Review
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: R.B. Silva & Pepe Larraz
Publisher: Marvel Comics
It all ends here, or should I say… it all begins here. This is it, the last issue of ‘Powers of X’ and we finally get the rest of the story. Many of the scenes in this book we have read more than once throughout ‘House of X and ‘Powers of X’ but this time we get to see everything. But this isn’t the end of the story, it’s the beginning of the Dawn of X!
This issue was good, it was another information dump issue, which is odd for a final issue, but overall it was a good final issue that leads into the next chapter of the X-Men. So many of the questions we have been asking throughout the event finally got answered, but not all of them. This issue manages to even ask a few more, and also have you question Xavier and Moira’s motives. There is obviously more afoot here than Jonathan Hickman is letting us know. I think it will be awhile into ‘Dawn of X’ before we really get to find out the answer to that question.
Last issue we got to find out who is on the Quiet Council and many of us were questioning some of the choices. This issue did a good job of explaining why some of whom were chosen. Xavier has set up his new world like a chessboard, and we are just starting a game.
The other really interesting part of this issue was we got to see more into Moira and her plan. These show up in excerpts from her journal. It was really fascinating to see how much planning went into it all. Moira really thought of everything it seems. Though again there’s some information redacted, but we will hopefully find that out soon. There definitely is something they are hiding though and it has me really curious as to what the “truth” is.
One of the best things to come out of 'House of X' and 'Powers of X' is how much I am now a fan of Xavier. He does seem a bit more villainous, but I love that fact. Hickman has now made Xavier cool, and a way more interesting character. We have always known from stories over the years that Xavier was somewhat of an asshole, but now Hickman has given him an edge that now makes Xavier an engaging character you want to read. Many of the revelations in this issue lead into that and have my interest totally peaked.
Overall this was a great final issue to lead into the next chapter of the X-Universe. It tied up loose ends, answered some questions, asked a few more, and really got me excited for ‘Dawn of X’ which starts next week. Hickman’s X-Men is exactly what we needed, and things are only just beginning!
