House of X #4 Review
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artist: Pepe Larraz
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Well that was a kick in the gut, but a welcome one. This issue doesn’t hold anything back and really takes you by surprise. After last issues explosive cliff-hanger, we were all left wondering if Cyclops’s team will make it. Don’t get too comfortable, because the ride is just beginning!
While I absolutely loved this issue, I found myself really questioning what could be coming next. Jonathan Hickman is taking us on a ride, and it looks like we haven't seen anything yet.
It was really great to see all of the X-Men work together in this issue and even use their powers in ways we have never seen before. I can’t help but love this new Xavier. Yes he’s cold, somewhat emotionless, and seems a bit more sinister and villainous than a hero, but he is way more intriguing than ever before. We really get to see him flex his powers and it’s pretty impressive.
The art which has been incredible every issue continues to be a major standout. Pepe Larraz and Marte Gracia just deliver so much intensity and emotion on every page of this issue. I truly felt I was on an emotional rollercoaster while reading this issue. Moments made me cheer, then worry, then shocked, then back to cheering. Every subtle change in tone Larraz and Gracia manage to capture it perfectly.
Overall this issue is explosive, intense, jaw dropping, and one big kick to the gut of emotions that leaves us begging for more. Hickman isn’t holding back, and neither do we want him too. This issue puts us just past halfway, and so here on out things are going to get intense and I can’t wait.
