All-New Guardians of the Galaxy #2
Writer: Gerry Duggan
Artist: Aaron Kuder
Publisher: Marvel Comics
The Guardians of the Galaxy have been hired, or is it more blackmailed into doing jobs for the Grandmaster as he withheld payments until they complete further heists for him.
This issue we see them infiltrate the Collectors collection to steal the Hujahdarian Monarch Egg. Things though don't like they will go as smoothly as the previous heist.
This book, while not as fast paced and silly as the last issue was still a ton of fun. In this issue Drax is the standout character and it is absolutely hilarious. I love his new pacifism role and it really add the humor of the series. He makes a lot of comments that we have come to expect from him and they are so incredibly funny.
I really like where Gerry Duggan has taken this series as it fits the characters so much more than having them constantly be heroes. Peter Quill just cracks me up constantly and Gamora's ferocity is amazing to read.
The one part of the series though, and we get to see more of it in this issue is the mysterious individual planting rows and rows of Baby Groots. It's too early to tell where that plot point is going to take us, but for me I found it to be one of the weaker elements of what otherwise was a solid issue and a fantastic ride. Can these new Groots speak English? It looks like it so then why can't the original Groot?
All-New Guardians of the Galaxy continues to be such a great fun read. There are a lot of elements in the series that obviously are inspired by the movie but it completely works. This is a must read series for any Guardian fans and for those that just want to laugh and have a good time.
