Project Superpowers: Blackcross #3
Written By: Warren Ellis
Art by: Colton Worley
Oh man, oh man. This comic is the bee's knees. This issue we got to see some more evolution of the characters that are slowly but surely getting their special powers that are being bestowed upon them by an (as of yet) unknown force. Rob's character has certainly evolved as a character in these 3 issues. He's gone from being a reclusive man under witness protection to a guy, that while confused by his powers, is starting to branch out both physically and emotionally. The law enforcement though are very inadequate but it's to be expected when they can't stop these "supernatural" forces. Either way, it should get interesting when everything hits the fan.
Ellis is absolutely killing it with this comic. The writing is phenomenal and I predict it can only get better from here. The dialogue was something that I was paying special attention to and man was it spot on throughout the entirety. There were points when I totally got lost in the conversations and I thought, this is like I'm watching a movie. Excellent use of every literary device in this issue. I loved the writing and Ellis keeps surprising me with his skill. I want more!
Same goes for Worley's art which is superb and an excellent companion piece to the writing. To be honest, you could probably just do an artbook with some of these panels and you'd have a complete story without words. I constantly impressed by these recent indie titles and the art in them. When I started tackling indie titles for reviewing purposes, I thought the art (as well as the writing) would be horrible, but I can admit I'm an idiot and that I'm wrong. This art is amazing.
Pick this up, it's getting REALLY good.
