The Fly: Outbreak #2

IDW is really giving this comic a run for its money. This may be the only comic based on a movie franchise that I have read (besides Star Wars) that I can honestly say has the feel and authenticity of its source material. This issue was great, we got an inside peak at what makes those infected with the fly DNA tick and we got a lot of callbacks to the original Cronenberg film. It's all very visceral and underneath there is a sexuality to it that doesn't truly bubble to the surface. It's a neat trick and this comic is playing the trick flawlessly.
Seifert does a lot in this issue to explain every little detail that goes into the WHY and HOW of the infection. And like I said, he does a damn good job of it. Some of the things that were revealed were surprises even to a veteran of the series like me. The dialogue was only choppy at certain points but it was forgivable because of what would be said right after. The plot is moving forward quickly and it's turning into a lovely piece of neo-80s nostalgia.
I praised menton3 last issue because of his amazing artwork and I have to do it once again. Just out-of-control how good this guy is at capturing the mood of the writing and the franchise. I know that this guy probably watched The Fly movies more than a few times and probably had access to some of the concept art from the films. That's the only way I can see him being this good at what he does. Every pencil stroke hits the mark and every panel is full of life. I love it and I love the art. It's breathtaking.
Great issue! Pick it up today!
