The Walking Dead #132
Written by: Robert Kirkman
Art by: Charlie Adlard, Stefano Guadiano, and Cliff Rathburn
Welp, Kirkman did it. He wrote an issue that had VERY little to say, but what it said was a YELL! This single issue has peaked my interest like never before. Funny thing about it though is that it's an insanely quick read, I was finished with it in less than 3 minutes. Quick or not, this jump in the timeline is getting really good and I am very excited. I don't want to give too much away, but if you've read the last few issues, you know that there was a revelation of "talking walkers". Well, now we see the brunt of how and why this revelation was made. I promise that it's pretty freaking cool.
Kirkman comes out strong again with this fast-paced issue, but he doesn't skimp on the dialogue. Everything written is pretty dense while still being easy to comprehend at 100+mph. Even the small scenes with Carl and Rick just talking about nothing are written perfectly and always end on a beautiful note. I'm just always in awe of this guy, he's not really old enough to be my father, but I feel like his comic has taught me a few life lessons in its run. That's the great thing about Kirkman, no matter how crappy everything goes for the characters, you always know that the end result with be informative. Pretty brazen stuff for a zombie comic.
No much has changed from the TWD art team, but when has that ever been a bad thing. I've said it a million times before, this story is only as powerful as its black and white atmosphere. The facial expression also make it happen, as always and I'll say it here: They are the best in the industry. In no other comic (sans anything by Alex Ross) have I seen facial expressions that tell the story just as well as the writing itself. The shading is so-so at times, but I can dig the shadows and stuff for the most part without any real complaints.
Really good issue and great setup for what's to come.
