This series continues to be one of the more refreshing comics that I get to review every month. It has an almost perfect level of nostalgia and wholesomeness that is perfect for any age group. There aren’t many comics that can say that these days.
This month sees the Scooby gang make an appearance at Garfield High School presenting to Jefferson Pierce’s (or Black Lightning for the super hero crowd) class. As with any Scooby comic/movie/show, some spooky happenings crop up just as the gang, The 100, shows up to try and recruit some students.
Having watched the Black Lightning tv show I was pretty familiar with all the characters that weren’t the Scooby gang in this issue, but even without that familiarity, Fisch makes sure that the reader is able to follow along quite easily. This is the reason why this comic is so great for any age group because you don’t need any previous knowledge to enjoy it.
This month we have Dario Brizuela on art and Franco Riesco on colours and both do a fantastic job of keeping that “house-style” for the whole gang. Choosing to use Black Lightning’s 70’s era costume (the original) was also a nice little touch - and gets a nice little joke out of it as well in the issue.
