Writer: Ian Flynn
Artist: Evan Stanley
Colorist: Matt Herms
Letterer: Shawn Lee
Publisher: IDW

The eighth issue of the new Sonic the Hedgehog series may have more detailed action scenes than the previous seven. We immediately join Sonic in a fun and fast battle sequence and the action just keeps going on each following page. On top of a lot of great fighting, we also get a little bit of a push of the story.

One of my favorite things about this new Sonic series is the pacing of the story. We are never getting an issue that is packed to the brim with too much story and we never get one that feels like it's dragging the story out too long. Ian Flynn is giving us the right amount of content in each issue that it keeps me excited and interested for more while never getting bored.

This issue is a great example of how Flynn’s writing is set at a nice pace. It doesn’t give us a whole lot of plot throughout most of the comic book. Instead, we get a lot of action scenes and an introduction of two characters, one old and one new. But the issue doesn’t need too much story because the introduction to the characters and the major reveal in the last scene are enough to make this issue a lot of fun while making me super excited for next month’s.

I really enjoy seeing Silver in this new series because his character is one of the most interesting in the Sonic universe in my opinion. To add to my excitement of Silver’s appearance, we get a first appearance of Whisper, who looks wonderful and heroic and kicks a lot of ass.

Evan Stanley had a big challenge in this issue it seems: he had to illustrate several pages of intense fighting between these three majestic heroes. Well, Stanley did the job amazingly because I enjoyed the artwork in this issue a lot. There are a few moments that a panel or character would all of a sudden be illustrated with this interesting style that looks a lot like pointillism. This was such a nice little touch that drew me into the action so much more than I already was.

The new Sonic the Hedgehog series is still going strong and doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. This eighth issue is packed with action, beautiful artwork, fun dialogue, and an intense cliffhanger. These are all things that I have come to expect from this Sonic the Hedgehog series and once again, Flynn and company hand deliver it to me.
