Go West is the first issue in a three issue series by independent publisher Alterna Comics. This first issue establishes our main character’s history and then picks up where we will start following him.

Go West is not your average and generic western. It is a story of an assassin who is seeking revenge for the death of his wife and child. The majority of the issue is dedicated to his inner monologue about how he became what he is, what happened to his wife and child, and his regrets and sorrow. The last several pages of the issue are dedicated to some great gory comic book action.

One of the things I love about this issue is the overall color scheme of everything being this plain beige color. Since the characters and the background are the same color, the people are drawn in this almost rough draft sketch style that looks really great. There is also color at moments such as the blood is very red and looks amazing against the plain beige of the rest of the comic.

This first issue is interesting and establishes a storyline I’d like to read. It didn’t yank me in with suspense or anything, but I will keep an eye out for more from this series. I definitely like the main character and think he has potential to be an awesome destroyer and we get a glimpse of that in this issue.

Overall, this is good comic book that is exciting and violent while also being dramatic. This first issue is a fun read and may really draw some people into the series especially if you like violent comic book westerns.
