by Nathan Koffler on December 22, 2017

Writer: Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden
Artist: Patric Reynolds
Colorist: Dave Stewart
Publisher: Dark Horse Comics

The comic super team of Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, and Patric Reynolds bring us a new story about our favorite occult detective, Joe Golem. The first issue has everything we want and expect in a start to a Joe Golem story.

Patric Reynolds did the art again for this series and does a great raw and creepy style to go along with Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden’s eerie writing. This first issue establishes  problems with Joe and Lori, which is also causing some conflict within Joe. We also get to see some doubt he is having about his boss Mr. Church.

Joe begins investigating a possible possession in this issue and it’s a possession that I can’t wait to see more of in the next issue. I think this series will continue to be a solid series in the Joe Golem saga we have all come to love. This team has worked on these same characters and ideas before and they are delivering again. The first issue here is enough to sell me on whatever else they have to offer.

They even do a good job at welcoming any new fans of Joe Golem by not leaving us with too many unanswered questions. Sure, if you’d like to know a little more, you can go back and find the information in the previous Joe Golem books. But if you are picking up here, then you will enjoy the new ride you just entered, so buckle up, because it is probably going to get weird.
