iZombie : Dead To The World (TPB)

by lucstclair on April 06, 2012

Meet Gwen, she’s a zombie. That’s right, a zombie. She looks like a normal human, but in order to keep from going in full zombie mode she has to occasionally eat the brains of the recently deceased. But with every chomp of grey matter, the memories & the voice of that dead person comes flooding into Gwen’s mind. If she’s lucky she’ll only get a headache, however if that corpse was murdered than they’ll scream for justice and they won’t give poor little Gwen a break.

She’s accompanied by her two best friends, Ellie, a clueless ghost with go-go boots and Scott (but she calls him Spot), a were-terrier, think Teen Wolf but a dog. Together they’ll encounter vampires, monster hunters & a real live mummy. Let the freak show begin!

Bbbbrrraaaaiiinnnsss! Now that I got that out of my system, I’ll continue with my review. This was a fun horror/Halloween-style story that doesn’t take itself too seriously and god bless it for that. One of my favourite moments is when a character explains the different classes & types of creatures that walk (or drift) the earth. Very creative. Written by Chris Roberson (Cinderella) and illustrated by Madman creator Mike Allred, who pencilled a bitchin’ cover. Looking forward to reading more trades. Originally published as iZombie #1-#5 & The House Of Mystery Halloween Special #1. From DC/Vertigo.
